Next Generation Sequencing for Next Geveration diagnosis and Patient care for Hemoglobinopathies

It gives me immense pleasure to share my experiences on training programme in Genomics at CSIR Institute of Genomics and integrative Biology, New Delhi. I, Dr.Suman Jain, Chief Medical Research Officer and Secretary, Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Society visited CSIR IGIB, New Delhi to attend a training session on Genomics as a part of Sanofi Genzyme Fellowship in Genomics for Medical Professionals, 2019 for a period of 10 days from 1st April 2019 to 10th April 2019 along with my research scientist Dr.G.Padma. The Genomics program included interaction and hand on training in different aspects of Next Generation sequencing (NGS) including genome sequencing, computational analysis and interpretation of data.

The training program on Next generation s
equencing was conducted by Dr.Sridhar Sivasubbu, Principal Scientist, IGIB, Dr. Vinod Scaria, Scientist, IGIB and their team. It was designed meticulously with well-balanced mixture of lectures providing theoretical insights and practicals consisting of computational exercises that enabled us to understand the different aspects of Next generation sequencing more precisely. The training equipped me with advanced knowledge and understanding of NGS data analysis. The knowledge gained would help me in integrating a large number of molecular data sets in the clinic for precise diagnosis of the patient. Interactive sessions with the scientists and students were pretty helpful and I enjoyed the learning phase during those 10 days in advanced bioinformatics. I congratulate the whole team for their deep commitment and hospitality.  Lastly, thanks to Dr.Sivaprakash Ramalingam, Senior Scientist, IGIB for inviting me to be a part of this training program on Genomics.
